In life there are many trials and tribulations it's never easy and it's never fair except for when it is. As Roxane Gay explains it's human nature to long for the good moments because we dwell on the bad. When most of us look back we see the past with a Rose colored tint hoping and remember in it better than it was. We aren't always happy with what life throws our way but it's the only life we have and it's then in our power to live it. Roxane was born into a strict family with strict rules. She wasn't white. She wasn't thin. She wasn't popular. She then had to overcome that and what better way than to read books and live with these characters and their perfect world's.
Everyone wants to live in a perfect world be there perfect self but sometimes life gets in the way and that's good and fine we all know the feelings of great happiness and great tragedy and we all have our vices that make us feel whole. For me it's really bad and cringe inducing movies and TV shows with some chocolate chip cookies. For other it's reading a high school drama. I don't share many qualities with the author. My parents weren't very strict and I was never really bullied but that doesn't mean I can't empathize with her feeling of insecurity and loneliness. I had many friends in high school and had an amazing experience with many great memories but I had my fair share times of sadness. What I take from this work is that we are many people throughout our lives we change sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse but you must remember all those people you were to understand who you are now and that includes living through the good moments with the bad ones.
